Where is BRANWYN underwear made?

We are not shy in admitting that we have a global supply chain. We do this because we've sourced the best from the best from across the world. We source our organic merino wool from sheep that are ethically raised at Mount Hesse sheep farm in Australia. Our yarn is spun by Sudwolle in Germany, and our products are knit, dyed, and packaged at our factory in Instanbul, Turkey before it is shipped to our headquarters in Portland, Oregon.

How is BRANWYN underwear made?

Once our merino wool is spun, our factory in Istanbul, Turkey, knits each garment out of un-dyed merino wool yarn using Santoni electronic seamless knitting machines. By using seamless knitting technology instead of cut-and-sew techniques we eliminate fabric waste. After each garment is knit and individually dyed. After garment dying, each piece is then shrunk to the correct size before it is packed up and shipped to us in Portland, Oregon.

Tell me more about how your underwear is made vs. other brands.

We manufacture every piece in their natural yarn color and then dye them in small batches. During this process, each pair of underwear is shrunk to the correct size which virtually eliminates additional shrinkage later. This, combined with our seamless knitting technology, is what makes our underwear so soft and comfortable! However this is also what might cause slight variation in size and color. This is a totally normal outcome of our craft process. Each piece is unique, and no two pair are exactly the same. Just like you!

How should I wash my underwear?

Choose your own adventure. If you're at home, machine wash warm or cold with mild soap and tumble dry low, or hand wash and hang to dry. If you're traveling, wash in the shower with a mild detergent, rinse and hang on a towel bar. If you're on the mountain, rinse with fresh water and hang from slack line. Merino wool dries quickly! Whatever you do, do not bleach your undies or use fabric softener. Bleach destroys the merino wool fibers and fabric softeners coat those fibers reducing their ability to manage moisture and regulate body temperature. We also suggest washing your undies with like colors with like colors.

Why merino wool? Won't they be hot?!

NO! Merino keeps you cool! Merino wool is a very fine, soft, resilient and sustainable natural fiber produced from Merino sheep that are able to thrive in climates where temperatures can range from 95°F in the summer to -4°F in the winter. Merino wool products are versatile enough for use in activewear, for the mountains, or for the gym, for use in modern street apparel and as a luxurious alternative to petroleum-based products. Because of the thermoregulatory properties of Merino, it should keep you cool while you're setting records.

Okay, but they have to be a little scratchy, right?

NO! Merino is super fine and butter soft. Merino wool comes from merino sheep, a breed which is world-renowned for producing the softest, highest quality fiber of any sheep. Merino wool fibers are super fine (thinner than human hair!) making our innerwear soft and luxurious. You are not going to want to take these off.

Are sheep hurt in any of the process?

NO! We love our sheep and would never hurt them. Our Merino wool comes from 100% ethically treated and organic sheep in Australia that are happy and healthy animals. All our sheep and yarn are internationally certified at the highest standard.

What does BRANWYN'S slogan "STAY GLDN" mean and where did it come from?

Our designer Shawna's dad went to all her games as a kid and used to shout “Stay Golden” to her, a reference from the 1983 American coming-of-age drama film directed by Francis Ford Coppola called The Outsiders. It means "Be true to yourself, innocent, uncorrupted, unblemished, etc. Don't conform to what society dictates. March to the beat of your own drum."

Is BRANWYN affiliated with the underwear brand called STAY GLDN which launched on Kickstarter in 2016?

Yes. Stay GLDN | Simply Better Underwear was adopted from Shawna & Garrett Lauringson in January 2019 and merged with BRANWYN | Performance Innerwear.
